Watching Games 1 and 2 of the 2013 World Series this week has made me remember some images I made last April while at a Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay game at Fenway.
I brought only my Lensbaby lens with me, thinking it would be an interesting way to capture the nostalgia of the ball park as well as a way to challenge myself to get the manual focus correct quickly on moving subjects.
The Lensbaby is a fun special effects lens that gives me the ability to tilt the lens and move the focus area anywhere in the image, called the "sweet spot". This makes the subject ( and anything else in the sweet spot, regardless of distance to the lens ) sharp and puts everything else out of focus, even if it is the same distance from the camera.
Below are a few of my favourite images from the game. You can see some examples of other images where I used the Lensbaby here with a fighter pilot and here at Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok. I also really love the look of this lens with portraits, and I just put it in my bag to take with me on a family shoot tomorrow!
